Summer

This summer I plan to play baseball and work. My job is demolition. I do this for a couple of construction crews in Holdrege. This is kind of a neat job because I get to destroy a lot of stuff. Last year I striped an entire office for a doctor coming to town. Also it pays very well.

Speech 111

This has been a very interesting and challenging class for me. Not having an actual class period and other students made it very hard for me to stay ahead in this course. But this has been a very wonderful opportunity for me get a jump start for challenge and its been a real eye opener for what lies ahead for me. I recommend this course for anyone in high school to get college credit.

Computers?

What is the best computer? Is it Dell? Gateway? H.B.? There are so many different styles and models, I do not know what to get for college. Man, there are lab tops, which would be very nice because there small, easy to handle, and have the capability to take to class. But then again they are way more expensive then a normal desktop. I'm still unable to choose what to get.

Baseball Season

With three weeks away, baseball season is just around the corner. The other day I was taking fly balls in center field in the rain. All I said to myself, man, can this really be true? I can't believe that I first started practicing back in February. Where did the time go?

Fast Food

Americans are considered the most over weighted population. Is it because of Fast Food restaurants? The ability to pull into a place after school, during school, after work, or even for a late night snack is provided way too easily for Americans. Most people would rather drive five miles to get a hamburger then to cook it at their own home. I for one do this because all you have to do is throw it always when you are finished. Its just way to easy for not to clean up the kitchen after cooking something.

College

I finally decided where I'm going to go to college. It was a hard one because there are so many different schools. When I went on my college visits it seemed like they were all the same. Hopefully I made the right decision on going to UNL. My plan is to study biology and I hear that this is a great school to study this field.

Cell Phones

Maybe its just me but my cell phone always fails when I need it the most. It always seems to loose signal and it seems like it always has a low battery. Does anyone else have this problem?

Car commercial

In this TV advertisement it showed a guy unable to get this girl that he wanted. So he goes out and buys this really fancy car. Is this worth it? Just for a girl? The girl should like you for who you are. This falls into Monroe's Motivated Sequence of Esteem needs. The desire to be respected and to "get the girl" but in reality this doesn't usually work.

Security System

The other day I was watching tv and and advertisement involving a security system for homes. It showed a lady talking on the phone to her husband because he was off on a business meeting and a robber brakes into the house. The alarm goes off. The robber runs away. And the security system calls the house and asks if everyone is okay and then calls for the police. I would say that this fits into Monroe's Motivated Sequence under safety. This is a product that helped save or prevent loved ones from being harmed physically and emotionally. This showed the viewer that this is things out there to help protect lives and make families safer.

Persuasive Speech #2

My second persuasive speech was on teen smoking. Everyone knows that smoking is harmful. But most people don't worry about this until its too late. Hopefully for the people who see my speech realize that this is not a path worth getting addicted to. I had a hard time finding enough information just on ten smoking but I feel that my speech was a success. Hopefully with an extended reach of tobacco free enforcement, teen smoking will decrease. I hope that someday people will realize that no matter what you do, smoking will kill you or change your life dramatically.

Persuasive Speech #1

I did my first persuasive speech on gun control. I was able to see both sides of fight against gun owning during my research. I am a hunter and I feel like its my right to own guns. But yet I feel that there should be a little control on certain weapons used. In my speech I explained a range of ideas on my own personal opiopion. For me this was a great topic because this is an area that I'm beginning to become concerned about.

Well this is my third year being the yearbook class. Its fun getting to work with computers and digital cameras. Have classmates that you have to rely on helps build confidence in the class room. Witch all roles together to successfully produce a yearbook.

GRADUATION!

In a couple of weeks, the Pomp and circumstance will be playing in the Holdrege High School gymnasium. My fellow classmates and I will walk through the school one last time as seniors. I really look forward to this day. But I will miss the times we once shared. This will probably be the last time all of my friends and I will be together. But yet I look forward to the next stage in life. I plan on going to UNL in the field of biology.

Gas Prices

Man, these gas prices are ridicules. Every time I fill up I feel like I'm getting hit in the stomach. I do not know what to do. Being a student and being involved in baseball and golf, when do I have time to work to pay for gas. During the weekends I do work, but it doesn't bring enough money for gas. It cost me almost 60 dollars every time I fill up. My income doesn't really allow me to pay for gas, car payments, along with other necessities. I guess if I can hold of till summer I might be alright.

Turkey Season

Opening day a classmate and I went out turkey hunting. It was a fun experience being this my first turkey hunt. My buddy walked away with a nice trophy but I permit remained untagged. Well, it was kind of a disappointment but it was sure fun to watch someone call in a bird. Wait for the right opportunity for the best shot. Well that's what Brad did. He knew what he was doing and successfully made a clean shot. I was very impressed with posture and calmness. I was only a few feet away and I was afraid I was going to spook the animals. This will hopefully allow me to do what ever it takes to harvest my 1st turkey.

Small Group Speaking Event

The other day I sat in on a prom meeting. It was only the four Junior class officers and Mrs. Sall. Mrs. Sall is a teacher who was donated a lot of her time for Holdrege High School to have an enjoyable prom. Well this meeting was about prom. The good the bad things were talked about. Mrs. Sall had five things that she was concerned about. The 1st thing the students and her talked about was Walk-Up. This year the walk up was shortened to allow students feel more comfortable and it also prevented the crowd from getting to close to walk-up tables. One student committed about that there was plenty of seating available for the friends and family. The 2nd thing was the social time between walk up and the actual dinner. It was about an hour long which provided a lot of people to take pictures and introduce students from out of town. The third thing was the dinner. The dinner was very good and the caitorer did a wonderful job of delivery as he promised. The fourth item on the list to talk about was the program. Well the speakers seemed to be very smoothed and the slide show made several laugh. The thing that they were unhappy with was that when the pictures showed up on the slide show, some didn't have names. "It was kind of hard to have an idea of who the actual person was" said Marissa Kardel, a junior officer. The final thing to talk about was the dance. Everyone in the room seemed to be pleased with the D.J. and had no concern about the dance for future years. This meeting was very short bet sweet. Mrs. Sall had everyone sit down and discuss what they did and didn't like about prom. Overall this was a very benifitial meet for future prom commitees.

Informative Speech #2

I just finished my second informative speech on Agent Orange. I found it kind of hard talking about this topic because while I was researching I saw some pictures of people who received illnesses by this chemical. This research just made me feel so comfortable living in America. There are a lot of people who have it worse especially these Agent Orange victims.
When I was giving my speech, I was able to calm down and just focus on giving the information to the audience. That was my goal and I feel like I completed it the best way I could.

PROM!!!!!

Well two weeks ago in Holdrege it was the BIG Prom thing!! Personally I feel like prom is over rated but that's just me. First you have to find a date, then a dux, and then a car. Well, the best part of this years prom was the car. I feel in love with a 2006 Dodge Charger. I can"t believe that someone would allow me, to take a brand new vehicle. With a Hemi under the hood, and my foot to the floor I felt invincible. But that all came to an end when my girlfriend told me I need to take the car back and come to the dance. But this a night that I will never forget.

17 days till Freedom

I can't believe it. Where did time go? It feels like yesterday I was walking into Holdrege High School for my first day of class. I find it hard to believe that in just a couple of weeks it will me my last day. The only thing I will have left of High School is four year books, a couple of pictures, and a lot of memories. Don't get me wrong, I can't wait for school to get out. No more classes, no more late nights spending time on a report, no more gossip, but I will miss all my friends and fellow classmates. All I can say is enjoy it while it lasts.

Informative Speech #1

For our first informative Speech I was debating on what to do. I narrowed it down to podiatry and a hobby. Well, with time a wasting I chose to do podiatry. I was able to receive a hands on view point having a cousin in Holdrege who is an actual podiatrist. It was a fun field to explore and I really see myself possibly someday going into this field of medicine. I learned that a podiatrist is more than just trimming on toe nails or removal of corns or blisters. But its also surgery, medicaly providing care for the patients. I really see myself having a hands on practice with the patients. Overall I feel that my Informative Speech on a future career plan went well.

motivation

Well here is something that I lack greatly. I have these phases that I do not wish to do certain things. With graduation around the corner and having senioritice for the last four months I've found it very easy to forget about homework. I never have any late papers but I do wait till the last minute to finish my homework. At the beginning of the year I would show up at school about ten minutes early and just prepare for the day. Now, when I get to school its about three minutes before I need to be in class and I have to walk straight to my first period. Well here I am, with about a month left of school I really need to buckle down and concentrate.

Here already?

Well its about that time again for Holdrege Baseball. Its the first week of February and I receive a phone call from my coach. "Hey Creighton we are having practice on Sunday and DO NOT me late." said Coach Kudlauck. I think myself, well, there's snow on the ground and I have no idea were my gloves are. Sunday roles around and our coaches said that we are hosting state this year and before you know it June will be here. Well hopefully this year we can do just as good or better compared to last year. Hopefully having home field will help us determine to be the best that we can.(sorry, I saved this as a draft)

First Golf Meet

I had my first golf meet about a week ago and all I can say was that I was very nervous. This was my first experience in a golf tournament. For some reason I decided to go out for golf because I wanted to have fun my senior year in high school. Well everything was going great until my name was called. Going up to the first tee box, I had about 15 people watching me. My hands started to sweat and my knees started to buckle. The only thing I could think of is why am I here? I've never played a game where only one person determines the outcome. Well, to make a long story short, I made the teams top 5 by shoot a 46. Yes I know its not great, but I did overcome something that I have never experienced in my life.

Speech of Self-Introduction

I completed my Self-Introduction speech. It allowed me to explore something that I haven't done before. My speech was about an influential person. Well, instead of talking about a baseball player or writer, I talked about someone closer to me than anyone else. That person was my Uncle Steve. Being able to use this topic really allowed me to see what this person has done for me in my life. He has shaped my life in a way that is hard to explain in words. All I can say is that he's not only a uncle but a role model and friend. I hope to become half the person he is. This speech was a very good starter speech for me.

Online Research Exploration

This assignment really opened my eyes on certain topics. Using the Nebraska Access website is a very useful tool for finding background information on my topics. I used a couple of topics such as abortion, hunting fishing, and baseball. There was a lot of information provided on each topic. In the assignment I also used http://www.google.com which provided a lot of detailed information. The advanced search was also a wonderful source, providing a closer look at my topics.

Speaking Event #3

The third speaking event that I attend was in my anatomy and physiology class. In class we were dissecting a sheep heart. Our teacher, Mr. Van Eperen was very strong with word choice. You could tell that he has done this before over the years. Mr. Van Eperen first showed the students diagrams of a heart. He also had transparencies that showed different angles of the heart. This made the experiment go very smoothly. Being able to determine the different atriums, and ventricles allowed us to feel more comfortable when it came for the finally test. Mr. Van Eperen made it very easy for the student to understand the different parts of the heart. He first started with the outside of the heart. He showed the channels were the blood enters and leaves. Then he showed us how to cut the heart in half which allowed to see the inner parts of the heart. He was very fluent with his word choice and he knew every question we had to ask. Mr. Van Eperen took everything slow, allowing us to take our time and actually study the heart. I feel that he did a very good job by adapting to the students intake on the information which made this a very beneficial speech.

Speaking Event #2
The second speaking Event that I went to was at Trinity Church. I've called Trinity Church home for entire life. I walked into the service expecting to see the same pastor but this time was different. The leading pastor for several years was moving to Kearney for another church. I sat down next to my mother and I asked her who was the new pastor. She said that new pastor was Bob Gannon and that he will being filling in for a couple of weeks until the church finds another pastor. Once Mr. Gannon walked on to the stage you could have heard a pin drop in the audience. You could tell that he was very nervous and who wouldn't be. Getting readying to preach to 200 people that you have never met before is a terrifying experience. He asked the service crowd to turn to 2 Timothy 3. As the audience was doing so, Mr. Gannon told a joke that made everyone start to laugh. This made him realize and feel more comfortable from the crowd. Once he started he became stronger and stronger. He did use a microphone which allowed everyone to hear god's word working through him. As I was sitting there, you could just tell that all eyes were focused on him. Mr. Gannon really pushed 2 Timothy 3-16. He encouraged everyone to help spread the word of god to others. He was an example to me, by breaking through the nervousness that he experienced when he walked onto the stage in front of 200 people, I asked myself why can't I do that to just two or three people? His lecture was very powerful to everyone who heard it. After the service people were shaking his hand and complimenting him on his wonderful performance.

Self-Inventory Worksheet

I completed my self-inventory worksheet. I started off by listing many places I've traveled over the years. I have gone to Saskatchewan Canada several times to go hunting and fishing. Also I have traveled to Texas where I've also went hunting and to visit family. I continued on by listing dream jobs: brain surgeon, professional baseball player, hunting guide, and a sports announcer for Sportscenter. From there I listed several issues that I care about containing friends, family, and sports. I enjoy playing a lot of sports such as baseball, golf, soccer, and football. Some of the magazines that I like are Outdoor Life and Field and Stream. When I finished the self-inventory worksheet I was thinking about what would be my best speech topic. I hope to be able to discuss topics such as: sports, classes, and literatue.

Speaking Event #1

I went to a local Rotary Club meetings for my first speaking event. Mary States, the executive director of Mosaic, was there to express the future goals going to take place in Holdrege. First Mrs. States expressed that Mosaic was an organization that helps the mentally challenged to enjoy life to its fullest. Mrs. States discussed the future additions for the campuses. There was papers provided to all the Rotary Club members containing information about the additions containing a new building and a fishing pond. She had a very distinct outline in the order that she presented the information. I noticed that Mrs. States was not over powering with her word choice. This made it very easy for everyone to understand. She also left plenty of time for questions by the audience. As a language, she had a very professional voice throughout the speech. At times Mrs. States could have been a little more vocal. Her delivery was descriptive. Her purpose was to inform others of Mosaic. She was not there to persuade or entertain but just there to inform the audience. The speech was well organized and strong. This was an overall good public speaker.

Speaking Events

I'm planning on attending public speaking events in my community. There are several groups that get together each month and discuss several topics about ways to make their community better. So far I plan on attend Holdrege Rotary Club, Holdrege Lion's Club, and Trinity church board meetings.
